Spring Meeting of the Standing Conference of Oriental Orthodox Churches

New York – Yesterday, Tuesday, May 21, 2019, the Standing Conference of Oriental Orthodox Churches (SCOOCH) convened for its biannual meeting at the Diocesan Center of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church.  After a beautiful morning prayer service in the Armenian Rite, the delegates of SCOOCH were warmly welcomed by the newly appointed  Primate of the Armenian Diocese, and former SCOOCH secretary of more than twenty years, H.G. Bishop Daniel.

At the meeting, the assembled fathers unanimously proclaimed H.G. Bishop David of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of NY & NE as the new president of the assembly.  His Grace outlined his vision for the organization, after which the delegates discussed a variety of issues including youth service, concelebrations of the Divine Liturgy, and missionary outreach.

In addition to H.G. Bishop Daniel and H.G. Bishop David, H.E. Mor Dionysios John Kawak of the Syriac Orthodox Archdiocese and H.E. Mor Silvanous Ayoub of the Knanaya-Syriac Archdiocese were also present at the meeting, as were representatives of all six Sister Churches (Coptic, Armenian, Syriac, Malankara-Syriac, Ethiopian, and Eritrean).
