Bishops Gather at St. Nersess Seminary for Meeting of the Standing Conference of Oriental Orthodox Churches


Armonk, New York – On September 20, 2021 His Grace Bishop Daniel Findikyan and the Diocese of the Armenian Church (Eastern) hosted the fall meeting of the Standing Conference of Oriental Orthodox Churches at St. Nersess Armenian Seminary. The meeting was attended by SCOOCh President His Grace Bishop David, Bishop of the The Coptic Orthodox Diocese of New York & New England and Patriarchal Exarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church Archdiocese of North America Inc., His Eminence Archbishop Dionysius John Kawak of the Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church for the Eastern United States, His Eminence Archbishop Titus Yeldho of the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church in North America, His Eminence Archbishop Petros of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church Archdiocese of New York & Its Affiliated Regions, priests and deacons representing His Grace Bishop Makarios of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Diocese of North America, and clergy from each of the sister churches.

The members of the Standing Conference started the day with morning matins in the seminary chapel and then adjourned to the library in which they held their meeting. Matters discussed included the ongoing dialogues with the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches, the continuing imprisonment of His Holiness Abune Antonios I and the election of a false patriarch by the secular government of Eritrea, service to the youth and young adults of the Church, the response of our churches to the most recent iteration of the COVID-19 pandemic, and a variety of other pertinent and pressing subjects.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Fathers were treated to luncheon by their hosts at St. Nersess.
