Fall Meeting of the Standing Conference of Oriental Orthodox Churches Hosted by the Knanaya Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church


PARAMUS, NJ – Today – September 19, 2019 – His Eminence Mor Silvanos Ayub, Archbishop of the of the Knanaya Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church, hosted the Fall Meeting of the Standing Conference of Oriental Orthodox Churches. The meeting was held at the Mor Aphrem Center of the Syriac Orthodox Archdiocese.

His Eminence Mor Silvanos was joined at the meeting by SCOOCH President H.G. Bishop David of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of NY & NE, H.E. Mor Dionysios John Kawak of the Syriac Orthodox Archdiocese, H.E. Mor Titus Yeldho of the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church, and H.G. Bishop Daniel of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Their Eminences and Graces were also joined by a special guest from the Kallisserry Region of Kerala, His Eminence Mor Gregorios Kuriakose of the Knanaya Church, who served as honorary chairman of the meeting. The appointed representatives of H.E Archbishop Abune Markos of the Ethiopian Orthodox Archdiocese of New York and H.G. Abune Makarios of the Eritrean Orthodox Diocese of North America were also present, along with other priests and deacons from each of the Oriental Orthodox jurisdictions.

A variety of issues were addressed at the meeting, including ecumenical dialogue with the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches, missionary outreach to the African-American community, the upcoming SCOOYA Youth Conference scheduled for December 28, and regional concelebrations of the Divine Liturgy in the New York area on October 12 and in the Philadelphia area on November 2. The present crises in India, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Egypt, and elsewhere in the Middle East were also discussed, and prayers were offered for the Orthodox faithful throughout the world.
