Brookline, MA – On Saturday, October 25, 2025 Professor Roberta Ervine of St. Nersess Armenian Seminary and Rev. Archdeacon Gebre Kristos Nicholas Siniari, Secretary of the Standing Conference of Oriental Orthodox Churches (SCOOCh) presented papers at the Orthodox Canon Law Society of North America Conference hosted by Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School Of Theology. Professor Ervine presented a paper entitled “Bishops and Other Body Parts: Viewing the Episcopate through the Lens of Armenian Canon Law” whilst Archdeacon Gebre Kristos presented a paper entitled “Canonical Crisis in Eritrea: The Removal of Patriarch Antonios I from His Throne and the Resulting Schisms in the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church”. Archdeacon Gebre Kristos also chaired a session of the conference entitled, “The Church and Responses to the World” featuring the Coptic and Syriac Orthodox scholars Mena Abdelsayed of Oxford University and Simon Samuel Kootstra-Ford of Ghent University.
Both Professor Ervine and Archdeacon Gebre Kristos will play featured roles at SCOOCh’s upcoming Oriental Orthodox Women’s Conference to be held at St. Leon Armenian Apostolic Church on Saturday, November 1, the former as the event’s keynote speaker and representative of the Armenian Church and the latter as emcee. They will be joined by a panel of distinguished speakers representing each of the Oriental Orthodox jurisdictions, including:

The Women’s Conference is organized under the auspices and guidance of His Eminence Archbishop Petros of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church Archdiocese of New York and graciously hosted by His Grace Bishop Mesrop Parsamyan of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church.
